Parking Enforcement/Citations

PARKING & TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT

All persons driving vehicles on the Santa Barbara City College campus are required to comply with the traffic laws for the State of California and the rules and regulations pursuant to the California Vehicle Code. The amount of bail for violations are subject to the jurisdiction of the Santa Barbara County Municipal Court.

Citations are issued for parking violations with bail ranging from $20.00 to $350.00. 

CITATIONS

If your vehicle receives a Parking Citation it must be paid or contested within 21 days.  Payments can be made online, by mail, or in person.   

IMPORTANT: If you have academic holds for parking once payment is made in full, please contact SBCC to have the holds released.  Contact information: parking@sbcc.edu.  Please make sure you to include your K#

Citations must be paid or appealed within 21 days of the issue date to avoid a late charge.

UNPAID CITATIONS

Unpaid parking citations may result in an administrative hold being placed on a student’s record. The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will also be notified of all unpaid citations.

Vehicles with five (5) or more unpaid citations can result in “booting” or towing.

PAYMENT PLAN

Effective August 1, 2018, customers who have 2 or more citations or a single citation totaling $350 or more, can apply for a payment plan.  A $25 enrollment fee is required to enroll.  The payment plan will allow for eligible citations to be paid in monthly payments over a 4-month period. 

* Academic Holds for parking will remain until the total fees are paid in full.  A payment plan does not constitute the release of the academic hold.

APPEAL PROCESS

In accordance with Section of 40215 of the California Vehicle Code, a citation may be contested within 21 days from the date issued or 14 calendar days from the mailing of a notice. To appeal a citation go to www.paymycite.com/sbcc to submit a contest form.  Results of an appeal will be mailed to the person contesting the citation. An individual who is dissatisfied with the outcome of the initial review may request an Administrative Hearing within 21 days of the mailing of the initial results. The Administrative Hearing may be done either in person or by submitting additional written documentation. Prior to the Administrative Hearing, an individual must pay the parking penalty fee as a deposit. Recipients of AFDC, SSI/SSP, unemployment or general assistance as well as displaced homemakers may request an exemption from paying the deposit prior to the Administrative Hearing. VERIFICATION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL EXEMPTIONS.

If an individual is still dissatisfied a Court Hearing may be scheduled with the Santa Barbara Municipal Court within 30 days of the mailing of the Administrative Hearing results. To file an appeal in court a filing fee of $25.00 is required.
