SBCC’s re-envisioned Student-Ready Program to host informational sessions in English and Spanish

When the COVID pandemic prompted Santa Barbara City College to transition all classes to remote instruction last Spring, “Evening College” – part of the “Student-Ready: Degree Completion for the Flexible Learner” program – was no exception. In order to accommodate student learning in the online instructional environment, Evening College has been recently re-envisioned as the “College for Working Adults.” Designed for new-to-college working adults and part-time students with few credits, SBCC invites the public to learn more about the College for Working Adults by attending one of four informational sessions via Zoom: Oct. 23 (in English), Oct. 24 (in Spanish), Nov. 20 (in Spanish) and Nov. 21 (in English).

Supported by a federal Title V Hispanic Serving Institution (HIS) grant, Student-Ready: Degree Completion for the Flexible Learner utilizes a holistic approach to create programs, services, and pathways for those students who move between full- and part-time enrollment status, and may be post-traditional students, parenting students and/or working adults. For those who enroll in the College for Working Adults, resources include a dedicated counselor, dedicated Peer Educational Guidance and Support (PEGS) tutors, and dedicated faculty.

Students can earn as many as three associate degrees, concurrently, from the following areas:

  • Associate degree (AA) Chicana/o Studies
  • Associate degree for Transfer (AA-T): Psychology
  • Associate degree for Transfer (AA-T): Spanish
  • Associate degree in Chicana/o Studies, Psychology and Spanish

Open for Fall 2020 enrollment, the program offers online courses and support to help students make timely progress toward graduation and transfer.
